PVC is notoriously difficult to paint with standard off-the-shelf paints, such as latex or acrylics.  In order to paint PVC, there is a level of preparation required to set up the PVC to accept paint.  

The paint recommended most by users of plastics and other products is Krylon Fusion paint, which is specifically design to adhere to plastic and other surfaces that are slick or have sheen to them.  Its works especially well when properly prepared, and is available at most home centers and hardware stores. 

To paint PVC you will need the following:

Follow the recommended steps below to properly paint PVC pipe:

	Perform the cuts necessary for the PVC pipe segments.  It is easier to work with smaller sizes and cut first, rather than working with large segments.		Clean the PVC segments as outlined in our ‘Cleaning PVC Pipe’ instructions.
	Lightly scuff the surface of the PVC pipe and the PVC fittings that you want to paint.  You can use 120 to 400 grit sandpaper, without causing any appearance of gouges.  The higher the grit, the better. After sanding, the surface of the PVC should be dull and matte, and not shine.		Wipe off the excess material that may have been left behind on the fitting or the PVC pipe by the sanding process.  Use a tack cloth to get all of the excess (optional).
	Spray the surface lightly, with as side to  side motion.  Apply thin coats over time.  Do not apply heavy coats as they will seep and run.		Repeat the coats until the entire surface is painted by rotating the pipe.  Follow up with a clear coat to get an ultra glossy surface.
